What stands out in the driver ranking
  • Study time dominates both lenses: it is the strongest raw relationship with exam score (Spearman ρ +0.812) and the largest standardized model effect (β +0.832).
  • Mental health is the clearest secondary lever. Average exam score rises by 15.6 points from rating 1 to rating 10, and the controlled effect remains strong (β +0.328).
  • Screen-time behaviors are the main drags after controls: social media and Netflix both stay meaningfully negative, while demographics and background factors cluster close to zero.
  • One subtle pattern: exercise ranks #5 by raw correlation but #4 after controls, suggesting it retains incremental signal beyond study time and screen habits.
Two ways of defining “driver”
Raw ranking = Spearman ρ Controlled weight = standardized β Mean score = 69.6 Study range lift = +60.1 pts

Spearman ρ answers “what moves with scores on its own.” Standardized β rescales the provided regression coefficients using the raw-data spread so different units can be compared on the same scale after holding the other variables constant.

The model explains 90.1% of score variation, so the controlled-effect view is strong enough to separate broad myths from variables that still matter once the other behaviors are accounted for.
